Simmons has made quite a name for itself with the Beautyrest line of premium mattresses. Elegantly designed and packing the ideal comfort features one looks for, in such a product, the Simmons mattresses are giving us a lot to talk about. But before we dive into the 5 best Beautyrest mattresses we came across, we wanted to talk a bit about the general features of this high-class line.

Categories

Let’s get something straight: Simmons is no rookie in the field of bedding. In fact, they have been manufacturing mattresses for over a century, which makes them quite the veterans. The Beautyrest line is divided into 3 main categories, each one featuring a different set of characteristics, as well as being suited for different budgets.

Silver

Mattresses sold under the Beautyrest Silver category are designed for people who want a good mattress without spending too much money on it. The name comes from the memory foam used in the construction of the mattress, which features silver to aid in thermal dissipation. It doesn’t have all the features of a premium Beautyrest mattress, but it does provide a decent combination of pocketed coil support and gel memory foam. Coil count varies from one size to another.

Platinum

The Platinum mattress category delivered by Simmons is middle-ranged. Just as with the Silver denomination, Platinum is the name used to describe the heat dissipating materials used inside this mattress. Its construction features viscoelastic layers that are meant to draw heat away from the body. The coil count varies depending on the size, with the maximum being 1,000. Due to the pocketed coil layer, the mattress provides a good amount of bounciness.

Black

This is the most advanced type of mattress in the Beautyrest line. The Queen size of this mattress has a coil count of 1,850 and is available in a variety of firmness options, just like with the Silver and Platinum categories. Inside the mattress, you can find an advance pocketed coils layer, to provide a superior level of comfort.

Construction

The surface of the mattresses available in the Beautyrest line is made from SurfaceCool Plus Fiber, a technology developed by the manufacturer to bring great levels of breathability to these products. This system is meant to provide a good amount of airflow that draws heat away from the surface of the mattress, transporting it to the edges and lower part of the bed.

Every mattress category in this line has an AirCool memory foam that’s present in the countering and comfort layers, to make sure that, in time, the mattress takes the natural shape of your body and supports you each and every night. If you opt for a more expensive mattress, you will benefit from the AirCool Gel and AirCool Max memory foam technologies that are designed to be highly-breathable and cool. All 3 categories also sport the dynamic response memory foam.

The Silver models feature DualCool technology memory foam, which uses natural silver in the construction of the mattresses to make sure you not only get a product that’s breathable, but also one that has anti-microbial properties. This means that the mattress is built in such a way as to prevent the growth of mold and bacteria within its layers, problems often found in homes with a high level of humidity.

Just as the name suggests it, the PlatinumICE memory foam is a property of the mattresses that fall in the category with the same name. This memory foam provides a great combination of body support and high levels of breathability.

Mattresses that fall within the Black category use the best technologies developed by Simmons and the most comfortable and breathable ones manufactured by this brand. They feature BlackICE memory foam, as well as Micro Diamond memory foam. The latter provides the highest level of comfort found in this line of mattresses and it uses the power of microscopic diamond crystals with generous cooling properties. The BlackICE foam is viscoelastic and it works together with the Micro Diamond’s feature by integrating a gel technology into the equation, for a more advances airflow. The more expensive models in the Black category sport a generous number of micro coils that add bounciness and responsiveness to the mattress. Due to the fact that these are the miniature version of regular pocketed coils, they act independently from one another, to prevent difficulty in motion transfer, while maintaining high levels of contouring.

If there is one conclusion that we can definitely draw from all this chunk of information is that the Beautyrest line is targeted at people who have trouble sleeping because of high temperatures. Simmons has worked a great deal to identify which is the best and most comfortable mattress construction that can dissipate body heat and ensure that the top layer of the mattress stays cool.

 Durability

When you’re investing this much money in a mattress, you might be interested in its durability (unless you have a lot of money to spend and don’t mind buying a new mattress every 5 years or so). We would have liked to see more transparency on behalf of Simmons as far as the density of the materials used is concerned. What we can do is listen to the customer’s voices that speak about their years-long experience with these mattresses. Even if Beautyrest is a line of extremely comfortable and breathable mattresses, questions arise about the durability of these products. After a couple years of use, customers have reported a noticeable decline in the support provided by these mattresses, as the foam seems to loosen up and the body sinks into the surface of the mattress.

Every mattress in the Beautyrest line is covered by a 10-year warranty, which most likely won’t seem enough when you check out the Black category prices. Well, maybe you can take comfort in the fact that all their products are CertiPUR-US® certified.

Simmons Beautyrest Silver Plush Pillow Top Mattress– Open Seas Model

Don’t let the (relatively) lower price tag fool you: this is a good mattress. It combines 3 of Simmons’ breathability technologies: AirFeel foam, AirCool foam and DualCool technology fiber. The latter, as we mentioned in the beginning of this roundup, uses silver as an integrated construction technology to provide both breathability and an anti-bacterial environment. The support layer features the pocketed coil technology that’s used in this entire line of mattresses. The mattress measures about 12 inches in height and it blends a wise combination of gel foam, for contouring, coil springs, for bounciness and a lot of air cooling methods to ensure a comfortable sleep when summer temperatures are taking a toll on your rest.

Pros:

  • Features a plush pillow top with gel touch.
  • Has a layer of fire-resistant fiber.
  • Integrates a triple air circulation technology, for better coolness when resting.

Cons:

  • Product’s durability is questionable, with indentations noticeable less than one-year in.

Specs:

  • Dimensions: 80 x 76 x 11.5 inches (for the King size)
  • Weight: 116 pounds (for the King size)
  • Available Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Full XL, Queen, King, California King
  • Category: Silver

Beautyrest Black Tatiana Ultra Plush Pillow Top Mattress

We can’t help but wonder why all the mattresses in the Black category are mostly named like Russian women (Tatiana, Natasha, Katarina, etc.). Leaving that aside, let’s talk about what the Tatiana mattress has to offer. On the top side of the mattress lies a 2.5-inch layer of comfort foam, for better body contouring. This layer works hand-in-hand with the 3-inch layer of AirCool memory foam because nobody wants to get sweaty in their sleep. But what both of these layers combined actually do is to provide extreme plush for people who like to feel their bodies sinking into the mattress, but not so much as to make turning over uncomfortable. AS far as height is concerned, this is one of the tallest mattresses we’ve ever seen since it measures 18.5 inches in height. The manufacturer advertises the Tatiana mattress as being adjustable friendly, but we have to admit: we’re super curious as to how flexible an 18.5-inch mattress could possibly be.

Pros:

  • A generous number of coils provide good responsiveness and support.
  • Great combination of different layers of foam, to serve different purposes.
  • Very elegant black design, characteristic of all mattresses in this category.

Cons:

  • The most expensive Beautyrest mattress.
  • Depending on the height of your bed base, the added height of the mattress might make it awkward to get in/out of bed.

Specs:

  • Dimensions: 80 x 76 x 19.5 inches (for the King size)
  • Weight: 197 pounds (for the King size)
  • Available Sizes: Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King
  • Category: Black

Simmons Beautyrest Silver Plush Pillow Top Mattress

The coil and foam combination in this mattress is here to make sure that motion transfer is kept at non-disturbing levels and that both sleeping partners are able to move around freely in their sleep. Since it features a layer of AirCool gel memory foam, it can successfully keep your skin cool, while pushing the hot air away from your body. We weren’t kidding when we said that Simmons was really looking to solve the breathability problems with the Beautyrest line. Even if this particular mattress model is less expensive (as most of the ones in the Silver lines are – at least compared to Platinum and Black), you still get a decent amount of body support, pressure relief and some of Simmons best air-cooling technology. Remember that as the mattresses price gradually increase, so does the number of measures used to create comfort and breathability for the customer.

Pros:

  • More affordable compared to other mattresses in the Beautyrest line.
  • Integrates Simmons’ AirCool gel memory foam, for better airflow.
  • Combines foam and pocketed coils for better body support and contouring.

Cons:

  • Box spring is sold separately.
  • Center of the mattress begins to sag less than one year in.

Specs:

  • Dimensions: 80 x 60 x 12 inches (for the Queen size)
  • Weight: 100 pounds (for the Queen size)
  • Available Sizes: Queen, King
  • Category: Silver

Beautyrest Platinum Luxury Firm Pillow Top Mattress

As you know, the Platinum category combines some of Simmons’ best mattress technologies with a more affordable price tag compared to the high-end bedding from the Black category. In other words, you pay a decent amount of money for comfort. The product page gives you the possibility to choose between different mattress heights and construction combinations, which eventually lead the changes in the firmness of the mattress. You can start with the extra firm model, measuring 13 inches in height, and go all the way to plush, a model that measures 16 inches in height. As expected, there are a lot of comforts and support layers combined to create the ultimate product designed for the rest and relaxation of the end-user. At the base of the mattress lies a layer of energy foam, means to evenly distribute the entire weight and pressure put on the mattress, but is also supports the other layers from sinking in too deep. Since Simmons has also added the Transflexion technology, the mattress doesn’t require a break-in period and you can start experiencing the premium features of the product from the first time you lie down.

Pros:

  • Creates a good balance between some of the Simmons’ best technologies and a decent price tag.
  • Available in different heights and firmness levels.
  • Combines 4 different types of foam to make sure you stay cool and comfortable during the entire night.

Cons:

  • Foundation is sold separately.

Specs:

  • Dimensions: 80 x 76 x 13 inches (for the King size)
  • Weight: 143 pounds (for the King size)
  • Available Sizes: Twin XL, Full, Queen, King
  • Category: Platinum

Beautyrest Silver Luxury Firm Innerspring Mattress

Just like every other model in the Silver category, this one is also targeted towards people who want a premium mattress but have a rather tight budget. You can opt between the medium or the plush version of this mattress, depending on your favorite sleeping position. But rest assured that no matter the firmness level, both types of mattresses have similar features that are meant to create a comfortable and cozy sleeping spot. Since Simmons likes to spoil its customers by bringing out cool features even in their cheaper models, this mattress has layers of foam that are focused on facilitating the airflow within the mattress itself, keeping your body at optimal temperatures as you enjoy a well-deserved rest. The foundation of this mattress is both durable and supportive, with the main goal of distributing the weight on the total surface of the mattress, so motion transfer is reduced. The AirCool BeautyEdge foam encasement is there to limit the edges and separate them from the rest of the foam layers, in order to provide stability to the very last inch.

Pros:

  • Available in both medium and plush options.
  • A lot of different types of foam layers work together for better coolness and support.
  • Foam encasement is here to make sure the mattresses edges are stable.

Cons:

  • A lot of people complained about the firmness/softness levels of the mattress not meeting their expectations.

Specs:

  • Dimensions: 80 x 76 x 15.5 inches (for the King size)
  • Weight: 115 pounds (for the King size)
  • Available Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King
  • Category: Silver

Bottom Line

Opinions on the Beautyrest line manufactured by Simmons seem to be pretty divided. As always, the best mattress in this case is the one that best suits your needs. It was pretty clear to us right from the starts that Simmons was focused on delivering a line of products that would combine different types of foam layers with technology that allowed the air to pass through the construction of the mattress, in order to draw heat away from the surface and take it away from your body. In fact, the manufacturer has developed such a wide array of heat dissipation methods, we can’t even remember all the technologies names by heart.

We did notice an increase in the number of added technologies when moving from one mattress category to the next. The mattresses in the Silver category are considered to be low-end (depends on who you ask), so they pack the least number of features. As we move on to Platinum and Black, we notice a severe increase in the number of technologies used. Here is the thing: even the most affordable Beautyrest mattresses used the same quality materials in their constructions. Basically, the difference between the Silver and the Black category is that the latter packs more advances features and the inner layer of coils has a greater number. It also sports more cooling mechanisms. While we aren’t totally sold on the true value of the Black mattresses, because some of these features don’t seem to be all that competitive anymore, we are drawn to the products in the Silver and Platinum category, mostly because the price is way better and the features seems to be more than enough for the mattress to meet its end goal.
