Even today, with all the medical information and advice at our fingertips, it’s hard to believe how many people still don’t value the power of a good night’s sleep.

A solid night of sleep sets you up for the next day, has countless health benefits, and thanks to all the new age tech out there, it’s easier than ever to improve the quality of your sleep.

One product that can help troubled sleepers get the rest they need is a Smart Mattress. These are effectively mattresses with all the ergonomic comfort and high-grade fabric you can expect from a traditional mattress, but powered with technology that offers new-age features that traditional mattresses simply cannot offer.

The only issue is wading through all the information out there to find the one that is right for you. To help you do that, I’ve assembled a list of the best Smart Mattresses on the market to help you make an informed decision.

Eight Sleep Pod 5 Ultra: Our Winner

Being as objective and fair as we can be, we have a hard time finding comparable products to the Eight Sleep Pod 5 Ultra, as it’s a genuinely market-leading smart mattress. But before we tell you why, the most important caveat is that this smart mattress top layer is expensive, retailing at $5,298. So, it’s not for everyone.

That said, if money is no option, and you’re on the hunt for the Smart mattress topper with the most unique and helpful smart features, then you can’t go wrong with the Eight Sleep Pod 5 Ultra.

This mattress topper comes with all the features of the Core model, including a dual-zone temperature control system and a sleep-tracking system that lets you monitor sleep data and regulate temperature while asleep. Plus, you have access to vibration and thermal alarms to ensure a calm, peaceful wake-up call.

This is already a stellar smart mattress setup, but with the Ultra, you also get additional features such as back pressure relief through zero-gravity elevation settings, automated elevation when the mattress detects you snoring in the night to mitigate snoring. Then, to top it all off, the mattress comes with built-in speakers so you can play soothing soundscapes or white noise to help you drift off.

The only downside, as is the case with all Eight Sleep products, is that you need to sign up for a paid subscription service to use the vast majority of these smart features, which is billed at $17 monthly for the lowest tier membership, rising to $25 and $33 for the standard and elite plans, respectively. Plus, as this is a topper, you will need to have a mattress that you are happy with to truly appreciate this product.

It’s a pricey unit, but one that can’t be matched when it comes to technological excellence and value. It’s a big investment, but one that is worth every penny if you can swing it.

Sleep Number Climate 360

Best Smart Mattresses Ranked

If you’re not content with buying a mattress topper unit, and want to go whole hog and purchase a complete mattress setup. Then we would consider the Sleep Number Climate 360 as the best complete mattress option.

This mattress, retailing at $8,999 for the Queen unit and rising with larger sizes, is significantly pricier than the Sleep Eight but offers similar smart features to justify the price tag. Such as fast-acting dual-zone climate control that lets you cool or warm each side of the bed with up to 30 degrees of separation

Alongside this, you also have a sleep tracker and an app that provides all the biometric data you need to monitor your sleep habits and adjust accordingly for sound sleep.

However, the true selling point of this mattress is just that. It’s a mattress, not just a top layer. Which means you get a top-of-the-range, extremely comfy mattress, plus additional smart features that the Sleep Eight simply cannot offer.

The marquee feature is the integrated firmness adjuster, which lets you adjust the firmness of each side of the bed. Which, thanks to biometric tracking, can also be adjusted on the fly as you sleep to ensure a comfortable night’s sleep without needing to wake up and manually adjust your settings.

The drawback of this mattress is that you can only use a smart base that provides elevation, akin to the Sleep Eight, if you spring for the Smart Base Bundle, which retails at $9,999. But that, and the lofty price aside, Sleep Number is a stellar product, and well worth investing in, provided it’s within your budget.

TEMPUR Ergo Smart Base

tempur ergo

If you’re someone who already has a comfortable mattress and simply wants to upgrade your sleep setup by adding smart features, then the Tempur Ergo Smart Base may be the best way to do that.

This base is perfect for those who suffer from snoring that affects your quality of sleep, as this product has top-of-the-line sensors that analyze micro-vibrations caused by snoring, and will adjust your mattress’s elevation to mitigate your snoring as you sleep.

Alongside this, the base allows you to use Zero-Gravity settings designed to take the pressure off your back while resting in bed, offering a feeling of complete weightlessness.

Then, with regard to sleep tracking, this base also has you covered, with an app that records biometric data for easy perusal, along with sleep insights, environmental insights, and a sleep-cycle alarm that allows you to set up silent vibration alarms for a calm awakening at the ideal time for you.

Then, to top it all off, the base also comes complete with USB ports for charging your devices with ease. Underbed lighting, a wireless remote for easy adjustments when needed. Plus, a built-in massage capability with three intensity settings.

This retails at $3,800 for the standard smart base, and this also comes in a dual-zone control model, which costs $8,500.

The obvious downside here is that you need to have a mattress that you are happy with before making this purchase. Not to mention, this product is lacking the features of others mentioned on this list, such as temperature control. But, if you’re in the market for a smart, adjustable base, there aren’t many that can compete with the Tempur Ergo.

Bryte Balance Signature

bryte

If you were intrigued by the idea of the Sleep Number but slightly put off by the enormous price tag, allow me to offer you a more budget-friendly alternative. The Balance Bryte is a complete Smart Mattress, which primarily focuses on smart features that provide adaptive comfort and sleep personalization.

The primary focus of this mattress is pressure relief, as this smart mattress uses adaptive tech and air balancers to adjust the firmness of the mattress depending on your sleep position, allowing you to move around as you see fit, as the mattress will work with you, rather than you working with it.

This is supported by adjustable firmness settings that you can set and change on the fly, with dual-zone customization so you and your partner can find individual firmness settings that work for each of you.

Plus, Bryte Balance users can also make use of the associated app to look at the biometric data that their mattress records for them as they sleep.

However, perhaps the most standout feature of this smart mattress is the BryteWaves technology that allows users to activate a relaxation mode, where your mattress will literally rock you to sleep with a gentle rolling wave motion, which is synced to audio, making for a complete sensory experience.

This Signature model retails at a much more affordable $4,799, which is a pretty sweet deal considering this is a complete mattress rather than a smart topper model. The drawbacks here are that this mattress does not come with any temperature control settings, and the base is sold separately. But, all in all, this is a good value option for those looking for sleep insights, smart tech, and top-tier comfort.

TEMPUR-PEDIC ActiveBreeze Smart Bed

Finally, we have the ‘go big or go home’ model. The smart mattress that is truly aimed at those for whom money is no object. The TEMPUR-PEDIC ActiveBreeze Smart Bed really is the premium all-in-one product that gives you everything you could ever ask for in a smart mattress.

Firstly, it’s a complete mattress setup, so you get a dual-chambered air distribution mattress with layers that provide support and comfort while allowing for air to circulate. Not to mention the adjustable base comes as standard, allowing for added lumbar support, custom positions, and automated elevation settings to mitigate snoring.

Then, alongside this mattress and base combo, you also have smart tech like dual-zone heating and cooling that allows for zonal control with up to 30 degrees of separation. Along with tracking data that will automate temperature control as you sleep to keep things within a comfortable range relative to room and body temperature.

This mattress also comes with built-in speakers and massage settings so you can relax and drift off in bliss. Plus, zero-gravity settings offer a feeling of weightlessness, whether you’re trying to sleep or just relaxing and unwinding.

The main drawback of this high-priced item is that the mattress firmness is not adjustable like other units mentioned on this list. Which, for the gargantuan price tag of $10,398, could be enough to put some off. However, as an all-in-one package, there isn’t really anything quite as complete as the TEMPUR-ActiveBreeze Smart Bed on the market.

Final Thoughts

sleep number

While all the units above have clear pros that would make them stand out for some, we feel that, across the board, Eight Sleep and Bryte Balance offer the best value for money.

For a mattress topper and base setup, there’s nothing on the market that even comes close to Eight Sleep, as it offers the most complete automation, smart features, and comfort settings at a reasonable price point.

However, if you want a complete setup with a mattress included, you should turn your attention to the Balance Bryte, which offers great smart features and top-tier comfort at a lower price point than everything listed above.

We hope that, no matter whether you’re looking for new-age features or tech that ensures a good night’s sleep. That we have helped you decide where to invest, because after all, that’s what a mattress is. An investment.
